Toolkit of Video Case Studies on Community Urban Art
We produced fifteen videos included in the Toolkit, showcasing successful transnational practices in Austria, Great Britain, Iceland, Portugal, and Slovenia that involve marginalised communities in Urban Arts programmes and initiatives. Watch the videos here.
Among the fifteen videos produced for the Toolkit of Video Case Studies on Community Urban Art there are three interviews featuring Icelandic artists working on the subject of social inclusion: Juan Camillo Roman Estrada, Pálína Jónsdóttir, and Hrefna Lind Lárusdóttir. They present their projects and tools for social inclusion in their art practice. The videos are available on the project website and YouTube.
Juan Camilo Román Estrada is an artist and art educator working with marginalized children, youth, and adults in Reykjavík. In his educational practice, Juan combines storytelling and performance art with legends and rituals to empower vulnerable communities and prevent social isolation.
Hrefna Lind Lárusdóttir is a performance artist and maker, director and teacher, who investigates the boundaries of art forms. In her collaboration Murar Brotnir – Breaking barriers she brings art workshops to prisons in Iceland. Through the Human Expansion Station, Hrefna invites all residents of Reykjavík to connect with nature in an urban setting.
Pálína Jónsdóttir is the Artistic director and co-founder of Reykjavík Ensemble International Theatre Company where she directs multilingual and multicultural theatre productions, creates inclusive theatre workshops, and pioneers new and inclusive ways to support immigrant artists living in Iceland.
