Co-production laboratory
In the beginning of December 2022, we had a kick-off for the theatrical co-production “Djöfulsins snillingur”. The four intense days of lab work at Dansverkstæðið were full of collaborative dissecting of the script, improvised sketches, laughter, philosophical debates, and experimental soundscapes. It was lovely to be back with older associates and new collaborators for our ensemble.
The theatrical co-production is inspired by the iconic short story Babette’s Feast by Danish author Karen Blixen and the research visits to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Thanks to the partnership between Reykjavík Ensemble, Teater Aros, Immart, and Nordic Black Theatre, the playwrights Ewa Marcinek and Pálína Jónsdóttir were able to meet with international artists living and working in the Nordic countries, and learn about their experience — the clash between the artistic ambitions and immigrant status.
The project is supported by Reykjavíkurborg, Performing Arts Fund, Nordic Culture Point, and Nordic Culture Fund.
