The Stronger is a new coproduction between Reykjavík Ensemble and Teater Aros and a theatrical gesture towards the Swedish-Icelandic Cultural Year of 2024, made possible with support from Svensk-islanska samarbetsfonden. The play is a much celebrated one act chamber piece dating to 1888 revealing a dynamic duel between two actresses who share love for the same man. The piece is an exploration of human psychology, feminist themes and power dynamics. Strindberg’s choice to have only one character speak while the other remains silent was a significant departure from traditional dialogue-driven plays allowing for an intense focus on non-verbal communication and the power of silence.
